Why Barc?

Every Stay Saves A Stray

When you board your dog with us, you’re doing more than just giving them a safe, comfortable place to stay—you’re helping save lives. Our boarding facility directly supports our local Utah dog rescue, also run by us. BARC proceeds go toward rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs in need. From food and medical care to training and foster placement, your support makes a real difference. Book a stay, save a stray!

Clean & Comfortable

We provide comfortable, clean areas for every pet. Pet areas are cleaned and sanitized with kennel-grade sanitizer between each stay, preventing the spread of diseases and allowing us to care for the more fragile of pets, such as dogs who recently underwent surgery. We use a high-grade air purifier to limit the spread of disease. Cot-style beds are used due to their comfort and ease of sanitization, with blankets for added comfort.

Never Bored

Enrichment can be provided daily, and your pet will get a mix of one-on-one time with us and playtime with friends (unless requested otherwise)! We have a supply of Kongs, toys, and organic, single-ingredient chews to keep them entertained.

Limited Kennel Time

We work hard to limit the amount of time your dogs spend in their kennel. We will always feed dogs in their kennels, and they will be kenneled whenever unsupervised (such as night time or when we are running errands), for their safety, but we will ensure they get the time they need to stretch their legs!

We Get It!

As pet parents ourselves, we understand this can be a stressful time for you and your pets. We do everything in our power to ease that stress. We can provide daily updates, including photos to calm your nerves, soothing music, plus fun activities to soothe theirs! Our facility is camera-monitored, and we live on the property, so your pets are never alone. We are licensed and insured for the safety of your pet.

But Wait, There’s More…

We are currently still perfecting our facility. We know our facility isn’t perfect, but we are limited by funding to make our dreams come true. We plan to expand and create even more home-like environments for your pets. Stay tuned here and on our social media to see how we grow or to get involved!

At BARC, we pride ourselves in providing a low-stress, comfortable experience for all of our furry friends. We know it’s hard to leave your pets behind, and we want to make sure everyone is as comfortable as possible while you are away.

Meet the Family

BARC is a family run business, and we treat our clients like family too! We want you to get to know us, so you know who your pets are staying with.

  • Founder

For as long as McKenzi can remember, animals have been the main focus of her life. Her dream has always been to work with and help animals. Throughout her life, she has had hundreds of pets, including, cats, dogs, millipedes, birds, axolotls.. anything you can think of, she has probably cared for.

From the age of 14, McKenzi has been volunteering with local animal rescues and pet sitting for friends and family. She has worked many animal related jobs, such as a pet boutique, pet insurance company, and even managed a dog boarding facility in Park City, Utah. McKenzi is also the Executive Director of the local animal rescue, Castle Valley Animal Rescue.

McKenzi started offering boarding in her home shortly after moving to Price. She provided this service for 2 years, until purchasing land to build a dog boarding facility.

Not only is McKenzi a devoted pet parent, but also the mother of a 4 year old little girl who is just as obsessed with animals as she is, and currently pregnant with another future animal lover. She doesn’t let this affect the love and attention she gives to all of the animals in her care. She believes in providing the same level of care for her own animals as her fosters and clients.

  • Designated Friends

While McKenzi and Tyson never thought they’d would end up with a pack of 5 dogs, they wouldn’t have it any other way. This tight knit pack has grown up with new dogs coming in and out of their lives, whether that was fosters or clients, and they are always happy to welcome a new furry face into the family. These guys make sure your pet is never lonely, even if they are the only other dog here!

Alaska - This beautiful Border Collie mix was McKenzi’s first dog, and the dog that made Tyson fall in love with animals. She has been there for it all, and can’t wait to be there for the rest.

Bailey - The Catahoula mix that taught the Layton’s how hard but rewarding puppies can be. This girl can make any dog her best friend, and is always excited for new friends!

Kenai - The mini Aussie who never runs out of energy. If your pup has endless energy, Kenai will keep up with them and maybe, just maybe, they will wear each other out!

Muffin - The toy Aussie corgi mix who loves dogs of all sizes. If you’ve got a smaller dog who prefers smaller dogs, Muffin will be their best friend!

Bingo - This mutty girl is the final piece of the puzzle, and makes sure everyone is always getting along. Bingo can perfectly adapt to any dog. She will make sure no matter what kind of pup you have, they will be happy!

  • Co-Founder

Tyson is the backbones of this operation. He has put all of his skills to work and learned more to make McKenzi’s dream come to life. Tyson worked tirelessly to build the boarding facility, as well as handling the technical stuff, like finances (ew!). Nothing is more important to him than making sure McKenzi’s dreams are successful.

He never knew how much he would love animals until he met her, but Tyson makes sure to constantly remind her how grateful he is for her for introducing him to the amazing world of animals. Since they got married on 2018, Tyson’s life has revolved around animals just as much as McKenzi’s, and he is always sure to support her wherever she needs.

Tyson will do whatever it takes to make BARC the best boarding (and rescue) facility around. None of this would be possible without his physical and emotional support. And don’t worry, he will take every opportunity he can to love on your pets, too!

  • As the Impact & Strategy Coordinator for BARC Rescue Center and Head of Marketing and Communications for the business, I wear a lot of hats—sometimes all at once (usually with dog hair on them). From directing outreach and storytelling to literally scooping poop, I believe doing good work takes heart—and a willingness to get your hands dirty.

My journey into the dog world started at 26 with my very first pup, who cracked open my heart and taught me what unconditional love really feels like. Since then, I’ve been on a mission to help others experience that same joy, whether through rescue, community education, or a really solid content shoot. With a background that includes working with some of the biggest auto groups in the nation, reporting from the remote Mariana Islands, and even collaborating with musical icons like The Piano Guys, I bring a creative edge (and a lot of energy) to everything we do at BARC.

I’m here to amplify BARC’s mission, support the incredible humans and animals behind it, and keep spreading the kind of love that only a dog can teach you.

  • I always thought I was a cat person—until two dogs completely flipped my world upside down (in the best way possible). Now? I’m a forever dog lover, thanks to these two lovable goofballs who stole my heart and never gave it back.

    Nacho
Nacho is my ride-or-die, adventure buddy, and very first dog—the soul dog who opened my heart to the unconditional love only a pup can give. He’s a cuddly, lovable Australian Shepherd/Border Collie/Red Heeler mix with boundless energy and a goofy streak that keeps me smiling every day. Whether we’re hiking, driving, walking, or playing tug-of-war (his all-time fave), he’s always down to explore and live life to the fullest by my side. He’s sweet, protective, athletic, and honestly just the best boy there ever was.

    Chica
Then there’s Chica—my sassy, mischievous little Toy Aussie tornado. She’s tiny but fierce, with serious small dog syndrome and zero hesitation about jumping into my arms or letting the world know what’s on her mind. Chica is wildly independent, full of emotion, and endlessly entertaining. She’s Nacho’s annoying little sister (who totally knows how to push his buttons), and watching them together is pure chaos and pure joy. She challenges me, surprises me, and makes me a better dog mom every single day.

Together, these two bring me more love, laughter, and muddy paw prints than I ever thought possible—and I wouldn’t have it any other way. 🐾❤️
